Saint-Gobain
2015-2021. Boston MA USA.
CertainTeed, a leading North American building materials brand with the most expansive product portfolio in the U.S., is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, a global powerhouse in the innovative building materials industry. Leveraging its abundant industry experience and unparalleled leadership in research, Saint-Gobain's CertainTeed division entered into a joint development agreement with Unity Homes, one of the top prefab builders in the U.S. based in New Hampshire. The partnership was founded on a shared mission: to elevate the standards of high-performance, energy-efficient, and cost-effective residential homes. Together, they aspired to redefine the benchmarks for high-performance prefab homes by harnessing the potential of digital tools, pioneering design concepts, and multi-scale products to craft transformative solutions that transcend conventional boundaries to achieve system-level impact.
As a lead design engineer for Saint-Gobain: CertainTeed, I co-led a variety of activities including:
Multiple prefab system and assembly design solutions for interior and exteriors prefab applications for The UNITY & CertainTeed Joint Development Agreement
Project research from conception, to fabrication, to testing to installation
Producing renders, brochures, and small scale prototypes using design thinking for customer insights and project stakeholders
Identifying our customers’ critical pain-points + conducting VOCs with external stakeholders (architects, contractors, & homeowners) and internal stakeholders (manufacturing plants, product managers, and sales representatives)
Synthesizing insights to address customer challenges and iterate product concepts to fulfill key value drivers
Prototyping system and assembly designs focusing on elegant and sustainable solutions, that maximize comfort while offering customers cost-effective solutions in a heavily regulated industry
Applying advanced physical fabrication and digital tools for design optimization of the system and assembly based on value-chain and manufacturing constraints
Conducting design manufacturing, installation, and testing Sprints using Agile Product Development
Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of mechanical engineers, nuclear engineers, industrial designers, and contractors for FEA analysis and extensive testing to meet ASTM and NHAS requirements for internal and external building materials
Working with an interdisciplinary team to fabricate and build high quality system and assembly design for full scale installations, permanently installed in customer’s homes.
Promoting the future of off-site construction on behalf of Saint-Gobain
